What is THC-P?

What is THC-P
Reading Time: 6 minutes

THC-P stands for tetrahydrocannabiphorol, which is also known as (-)-Trans- Δ9-tetrahydrocannabiphorol. It’s a natural cannabinoid and analog of THC, and it’s been claimed to be 33 times more active at CB1 receptors than regular THC.

A cannabinoid must have at least three carbon atoms in its alkyl side chain to have any effect on your cannabinoid receptor. THC-P has seven carbon atoms, whereas THC has five carbon atoms. And if none of that made sense to you, that’s also fine. The most important thing to remember is that THC-P is a powerful and potent substance.

History of THC-P

A research team in 2019 led by Cinzia Citti attempted to distinguish the cannabinoid profile that generates a strain suitable for personal usage. They conducted a series of tests on an Italian strain of cannabis known as FM2.

They discovered the two chemicals THCP and CBDP during their research. These cannabinoids have a structure that is very similar to that of THC and CBD. However, there are a few key differences, which distinguish them and make them even less attackable than their cousins.

Is THC-P legal?

THCP, like Delta-8 and Delta-10, lives in a legal grey area.

Even though it isn’t classified as a drug under the Federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA), THC-P is nevertheless a THC analog. Unless exempted by legislation, all analogs of THC are forbidden by default under the Federal Analogue Act (FAA).

However, because THCP occurs naturally in hemp and contains up to 0.3% THC, some claim that it is protected under the Agriculture Improvement Act (2018 Farm Bill), a major piece of legislation that legalizes hemp and all hemp derivatives on a federal level.

Difference between THC-P and THC

Only five years ago, the term THC referred to one compound: Delta-9 THC.

There are now over a dozen different types of THC, each with its characteristics.

The majority of THC analogs have a similar underlying effect profile. The differences between each form of THC boil down to factors such as efficacy, qualitative effects, and an indefinite amount.

THCP is the most potent currently recognized cannabinoid. In terms of potency, it’s closest to synthetic THC like THC-O.

THCP is approximately 1.5 times more powerful than THC-O, 5–10 times more powerful than Delta-9, 10–20 times more powerful than Delta-8 and Delta 10, and approximately forty times more powerful than THCV.

Therefore, THC-P has shown to be much more active than THC even in modest doses. THCP has a lot of cannabimimetic action, according to Italian experts. It has a much higher efficacy in terms of activating the CB1 receptor. That’s similar to how certain synthetic THC analogs operate.

The way a substance feels is influenced by its qualitative effects.

Scientific testing is difficult to obtain, therefore the majority of qualitative profiles of these substances originate from persons who have tried the substance and reported their experiences.

On the market, there isn’t a lot of information about the qualitative effects of THCP. However, based on the limited anecdotal reports, this cannabinoid appears to have comparable overall effects to Delta 9 THC, but with more stimulating action and a larger alteration in visual and auditory perception.

Every form of THC price is determined by two factors: how easy it is to obtain and how much demand there is on the market.

THCP is difficult to supply in large quantities, and the public market shows little or no interest at all. This combination makes it extremely expensive. However, the advantage is that because of how potent it is, you don’t have to use too much like other kinds of THC. As a large amount of product enters the market, the value of THCP fluctuates.

How is THC-P made?

THC-P is a phytocannabinoid that is produced by the cannabis plant from a chemical called cannabigerol acid, sometimes known as “the mother cannabinoid.” Even though it appears naturally in cannabis plants THC-P is generally made in a laboratory, from hemp carrying a maximum of 0.3% Delta-9-THC. THC-P has only been discovered in the FM2 strain of cannabis, according to research so far.

Is THC-P synthetic or natural?

THCP is a natural compound found in cannabis that is linked to all other compounds. It was around 1,333 times less common than THC from one of the Italian strains analyzed, FM2.

To prove the existence of THCP, it was also synthetically recreated in a highly specialized laboratory for validation and research.

THC-O Acetate, on the other hand, might be a synthetic cannabinoid generated by modifying D9 or D8 chemically.

THC-P overview:

  • Natural cannabinoids were discovered recently.
  • Only in trace amounts, yet up to 33 times stronger.
  • Currently, the market is shaky.
  • Cannabinoid receptors are fully activated.
  • There’s also a CBD-infused version: CBDP
  • Big companies will almost certainly target the compound in the future.

How to consume THC-P?

THC-P’s effectiveness like that of any cannabis product is mostly dependent on the dose you consume. There are numerous ways to obtain THC-P and calibrate the dosage that is most appropriate for your needs. THC-P products are most seen in the form of vape cartridges and edibles (like gummies). However, you can also see a few brands selling them in sublingual form.

All three forms are different ways of consumption and therefore the effects shown are also different.

If edibles have slower effects, then vaping is the easiest and fastest way of using THC-P.

Edibles show a slow effect because it enters the digestive tract where the compound is broken down. During the process a lot of THC-P gets wasted and the remaining component flows into the blood and then to the brain and CB1 receptor. However, the slower the process, the longer the effect.

On the other hand, the sublingual (tincture) form of THC-P shows quick effects than edibles. Simply keep the desired amount under the tongue and wait for 30 seconds, then swallow the tincture with saliva. The drops go directly into the bloodstream and then to the brain.

The fastest way of feeling the effects of THC-P is through vaping. Vaping bypasses the digestive tract completely and flows directly to the blood and then to bran and CB1 receptors. Moreover, the vaping cart is easier than smoking tobacco.

Start with a smaller dose if you’re new to using cannabis products. You’ll be able to regulate (reducing or raising your intake) particularly to satisfy your needs once you’ve tested a lower dose and lower intake level and seen the effects.

Is THC-P safe?

There hasn’t been enough research done on this substance to determine whether it is safe to use. However, there hasn’t been any evidence to suggest that it is unsafe.

THC-P appears to have the same persistent effects on the body as a THC, but with increased efficiency. According to early findings, THC-P has a continuous safety level when administered at a safe dose. Since it is a powerful substance, it’s easier to feel side effects upon excessive dosage than it is with THC.

How long does it take THC-P to show effects?

Edible forms of THCP, such as candies or tinctures, take around an hour to start working. The results continue to improve over the next hour, peaking at three hours. These effects last for about a couple of hours before gradually dissipating. The experience lasts between 4 and 6 hours in total.

Inhaled forms of THCP, such as vapes or THCP flowers, start working much faster within a quarter-hour. Within the 1-hour point, the consumer will feel its peak, and it begins to drop off about two hours later. The duration of inhaled THCP experience is between 3 and 5 hours.

Where to buy THC-P?

As previously stated, the market for THCP products is currently limited. Please check with your state’s laws to ensure that THCP is legal before purchasing. For example, state legislators have already enraptured to outlaw Delta-8-THC. It’ll only be a matter of time until they do something about THCP.

Until then, you can check with your nearby local dealer if they sell THC-P vape, oil, or gummies. To our knowledge, most companies are focused on selling THC-P vape carts as they are most in-demand among youngsters. You see, vaping is quite a fashion!

Is it available online?

The answer to this question was “No” until a few months ago. However, several firms have begun to market products that claim to contain THCP.

If you’re too lazy to go out and find an authorized store, then check online. Simply check your search engine to find a THC-P online store with good reviews and ratings. The first thing that we don’t need is o fall prey to any scammer. Thus, checking reviews online will help us to make a fair decision.

Online retailers also provide third-party lab reports and other certificates for transparency. This also helps in determining the authenticity of any brand. And let’s not forget the product description and ingredients mentioned in detail on every product page.

The biggest advantage of buying online is that you get great deals and discounts on your favourite THC-P product. If not, then compare prices from 2-3 good online retailers and buy the best deal.

Future of THC-P

The world of THCP is only just getting better. There has been so much curiosity in the alternative cannabis space during the previous 12 months, that it’s difficult to imagine THCP not becoming more widely available as the market matures.

With a potency range claimed to be up to 33 times that of Delta 9, this cannabinoid is a big revenue generator for companies selling other cannabis extracts. The major dilemma is how governments can try to regulate substances like THCP and THCO.

Neither of those compounds is listed on the United States list of forbidden substances, but they’re almost certainly listed as illegal by the commission under the Federal Analog Act. Although Delta 8 may also be included on this list, the government has yet to adopt a firm stance against any of these chemicals.

In conclusion, within the next few months, there will almost certainly be a huge increase in interest in THC-P. Whether the government decides to intervene and begin enforcing laws against THC analogs or not, will determine how large the market and demand for THC-P will develop.
